In case you haven't heard, satellite-television providers DirecTV and Dish Network have both announced that they'll begin broadcasting a slew of new high-def channels in select markets this year. Many of these will be high-definition versions of local TV channels such as ABC and Fox, which HD satellite subscribers currently must watch via an over-the-air antenna. So what's the catch? All current high-def-capable satellite receivers, including the new Dish Network DVR 942, won't be able receive those channels because they're not compatible with the new MPEG-4 AVC format.
